Building Jacking & Shoring

Building Jacking & Shoring

Raising a building or other structure is referred to as Jacking & Shoring.

Jacking a building up allows contractors room to work beneath the building structure so that they can repair or replace defective framing or a failed foundation. Jacking is also used to level a house that has settled excessively.

Shoring refers to the temporary supports that are put in place when jacking up a building, such as posts, beams, and other structural elements, all of which are necessary to relieve the load on the walls above while being repaired or reinforced.

Jacking and shoring is also known as house raising, house lifting, house jacking, barn jacking, building jacking, and the like.  House raising is the process of separating a building from its foundation and temporarily raising it with hydraulic screw jacks.
